4:25Now, ladies and gentlemen, I think you'll agree that when you're Talking about an amendment to the Constitution of the United States Of America, you've got to make sure that you really mean it, you know What I mean? I mean, we're talking about the long haul here. And I Think it behooves us to realize that not only are there certain Pieces of music that should be preserved for historical reasons But also certain musical instruments and the music created for them For instance, will you please direct your attention to the west Wall of this room, over there where those guys with the jackhammers Are standing. Now, that wall was put up in 1938 by workers for President Roosevelt's WPA, you know, the Workers' Pork Barrel Administration or whatever it was called. What it was, as you all Know, was a make-work boondoggle and a waste of the taxpayers' Money. Sure, they built a few bridges around the country, but Sometimes they did more harm than good. Like when they renovated This room, for instance. If the blueprints that I've seen are right When they erected that wall in 1938, they covered up... Well I'm not going to tell you, I'm going to show you. Go ahead, fellas That's right. When they erected that wall, they covered up one of the Most beautiful theater organs ever built. That's what it was like in The old days, senators, back before Muzak. Now, my guess is that that Beauty is still in working order. And I'd like to not only give you A chance to hear it, but to play along with it. This may be a Senatorial first. Each one of you, right next to your pad of Paper and pencil there, you'll see a green globular object That's a Dill piccolo. If you want to pick it up and blow into it . That's right. Okay. Okay, everybody. Okay, okay, okay, okay Okay, take it easy, senators. A little decorum here, please Okay, now you've each got a piece of music there. It has numbers On it to tell you what fingers to put down when, and it's just One little melody for each section, and all you have to do is Play every time I play. It's so easy, even a Republican can do it Just kidding! Just kidding! A little joke there! Just fooling around It's so easy, even a foreigner can do it. Okay, let's make music Not war. This is the "Purkelpüchlein", the "Little Pickle Book" By Petey Q. Bach. And that's Dennis James at the mighty Wurlitzer
