As we reflect back, it's been 12 years
Since she released her self-titled debue album
And some people described it
As sort of a modern sound meets tradition

That's kind of what I tried to do
You know, I figured out at a young age
That when you control what music you put out by writing it
Then you get to control your own sound
And, you know, no one else can do that for you
No one else can take that sound away from you
And, um, replace it with something else
So, you know, this is the music that I've always loved to sing
And I think it's just different enough
To where people have been able to relate to it

Well I'd say the fact that people have been able to relate
To her debue album is a bit of an understatement
And here comes a song which I would definitely say
Fell into the more modern category
On Taylor Swift's debue album
