How do we express thanking you?
We don't know what to say
We can't ignore much of what you do
For us every night and day
You help us strive to live our goals
When we don't always see
The fact you ask for nothing in return
As you fight for our security
There's nothing we can't discuss
If it's weighing on our minds
And when we're bruised you calm and soothe
And get us feeling fine
In younger days when we couldn't sleep
You lay down in our beds
And through rainy days
You put a roof over our heads
All these hours you have spent tending us
It can't have been easy
But we hope it was worth it for you
In all of us kids you see
You're the constant unconditional friend in our lives
And we trust that you know it although we don't it all the time
And even now God knows how
You put up with the fight
We know it's rarely ever fun
As you guide us to what's right
You're not a saint, we test your nerve
We know you've got a voice
And every time we shout it out
We make a better choice
All the hours you have spent tending us
